About California Farm Life

Good morning! Welcome to my first ever blog post. I’ll start off by telling you who I am and what California Farm Life is about.

My name is Akke, pronounces “aw-ka” It is a hand-me-down name from #Holland. One side of my family #immigrated to San Diego from Holland in the 1940s. I’m not sure if you are aware of what was going on in that area but it was a good choice. Once in San Diego they lived the American dream starting their own farm. My mother’s father was a dairyman and a Veil Rancher.

The other side of my family has been in America since the pilgrims, moving from Kansas to #California specifically the Los Angeles area in the1930s. Once there it was city life all the way. Both my Great-Grandfather and Grandfather were in the #military and the police force. One day my Grandfather decided they should buy a ranch and moved the family to San Diego.

My parents were high school sweet hearts. Farming was in my mother’s blood and my dad has the passion for working the land. Between the two of them they instilled in me a love for land and a work ethic that is hard to shake. From morning grain and watering the #calves to milking cows in the afternoon I always had things to do. There was never a sick day or day off and because of that I loved school. School was a break from the “real work.” To this day the hardest days yet the most #gratifying days are spent at home on “the ranch.”

I have a passion for the land as well as animals. I know how to milk a cow and pick eggs; I know when you need to plant #pumpkins and when the fields should be raked. Through this all I believe a house should look and maybe more importantly smell like a #home. I am a self-titled “particular person.”

My house is small usually picked up but always dirty. I started California Farm Life to make #candles. I wanted my house and your house to give off an aroma that made it feel like home and makes you forget about the dust. I know living in between two #dirt roads I should have given up on the dust, but I just can’t seem to. I am always apologizing for my house being “dirty”.

Personally I’d make a #bleach scented candle and be happy but unfortunately that isn’t an option. I’ve tried. What is an option are smells that remind me and hopefully you of things from your #childhood. I am focused on happy memories that lighten your day and mood.

Once I started making candles I got the #creative bug and I started making soaps and lotion bars. I just love creating things! I also am learning about vinyl. So stay tuned for some of that! I experiment with all organic and natural products. I believe what you put into your body will be repaid to you. #Chemicals in hand lotion might not cause any negative affects but I have firsthand experience how your skin starts to become “dependent” on the chemicals instead of the natural oils.

The purpose of California Farm Life is to supply you with the best product, whether it is because it is #organic or #handmade. I make everything to the best of my ability. I was raised to always do your best and that will never change. If you have any questions I am always around to answer them. I look forward to working with you.
